According to The Weekend West, the 3 top election issues for the City of Stirling are Residential Rezoning, Trees and Traffic Speeds;
Note – infill, density, parks and amenity are a concern for many communities across Perth
Hardly surprising people in Stirling are concerned about residential rezoning and the resulting tree removal, as Stirling has 7 of the top 10 most densely populated suburbs in Perth.
“the highest population densities in Greater Perth were the north-west areas of Tuart Hill – Joondanna (3,600 people per sq km), Scarborough (3,300) and Innaloo – Doubleview (3,100), and North Perth (also 3,100), which adjoins the central business district. Mount Hawthorn – Leederville and Nollamara – Westminster also had densities of more than 2,900 people per sq km. All of these SA2s have an area of 6.0 sq km or less.” According to this ABS 2012-13 report.
Maybe it is time for other councils to do there bit? Yet the Barnett Government wants even more density in Stirling and they have introduced planning laws that have made local councils virtually powerless to stop it.
